How to plan for a baby. Are you really prepared?

What you should do well in advance of your due date!

Birthing classes, talks with your doctor, having a look at the hospital and facilities, what to expect while in labor, and what drugs and care you’ll be given are musts. Talk about c-sections even if you are positive you will not have one. Find out what is normal care at your chosen hospital. The more you know, the better you will be prepared.

Do you have a pediatrician? If no, why not? You will need one as soon as the baby pops out! Do some research now and choose! If you wait, you will get whoever is tossed at you and then you will be choosing.

If you have a boy, have you thought about circumcision? Get to it!

How will you manage with a baby? If you have made no preparations for getting help at home, what are you waiting for? Having a new baby at home is stressful and takes a lot out of you. Set up some help from friends and relatives now. Did you know that many hospitals will drill you about the care you have on discharge? Be prepared to give good answers about how you will manage. Especially if you are having or need to have a c-section.

You need to decide now if you are going to breastfeed. If you have not thought about it, why not? Breastfeeding is the best food for your baby. Formula is the lazy way out. Breastfeeding is natural. Read more about deciding to breastfeed here.

Having your first baby is a busy, exhausting, stressful experience. You need to be prepared. But being prepared does not mean things will go smoothly. Being prepared is actually knowing how to cope with all the little and big problems, seen and unforeseen. But women do it every day! You can to!
