 Christmas Baby Safety Tips

The Holidays can be a great time to have a baby and let them experience the world of bright colors, sights, and smells. But the winter celebrations can also pose danger for babies and small children.

A fireplace is a nice thing, but babies and small kids can get too close. Make sure your baby cannot get close enough to touch or be too hot. Be sure and remove any hanging items like stockings that a toddler can pull down. Be sure and take the flammable items away before lighting the fire as well. Keep the chimney clean to avoid fumes in the house and make sure your smoke alarms are working properly.

What would Christmas be without candles? But keep them far away from little hands, as well as the matches and lighters. Never put candles on anything, like a table cloth or napkin that a child can pull down on top of them. Blow out the candle when you are done! A safer alternative is lights that look like candles. You can even buy air fresheners that smell like pine and other holiday favorites.

Christmas trees and houses normally have lights strung around them. Again, you need to make your tree baby-safe by watching what you put on the lower branches. Nothing wrong with putting up temporary barriers around the tree to keep kids away. Trees are unstable and even a small child can pull one down on top of them. Tie it to the wall if you can. Keep your tree fresh with water if it is real. A dry tree can go up in flames very quickly.

Houses have all sorts of decorations: glass balls, dishes, even sweets. Keeping baby and small kids from knocking things down and getting into things can be a full time proposition. Never take your eyes off!

Make this Holiday Season safe for the little ones!
