 Danger of Choking foods

The American Academy of Pediatrics is looking to put warning labels on food products. Some food is dangerous because of choking hazards to kids.

Experts say choking is the leading cause of death for kids under 14.

If your child is under the age of 4, then your child is at the age of greatest choking danger.

Small foods that are about the same diameter of a child’s throat are the biggest chokers.

Here is a list of foods that in their normal form should not be given to small kids.

hot dogs
grapes
raw carrots
apples
peanuts
hard candy

This does not mean not to feed them, but they must be radically modified to be safe. Do not give them right out of the package.

We are not going to give a lot of advice on preparing them. Avoid them or talk it over with your doctor.

Here are some tips, but PLEASE, ask your doctor.

cut hotdogs length wise
cut grapes in at least 4 or more pieces.
don’t give candy, seeds, peanuts, or similar food

The last tip is never let small children lay down, run, or pay while eating.
