April 26th, 2009 Avoiding and Treating Diaper Rash
Diaper rash can appear as redness and be a little hot to the touch. More severe cases can be very red. If it is in the diaper area, it is probably diaper rash. If it is in other areas, you should see a doctor.
Causes of Diaper Rash:
The most common is having the baby’s skin exposed to wetness for a long time. Especially a wet diaper.
If you baby has diarrhea, this can also cause a rash. If you use antibiotics or new foods, diarrhea can occur.
Finally, the diapers you are using may be causing friction or chafing. This will irritate the baby’s skin.
Treatment for Diaper Rash:
The best thing first is to change the diaper. Get rid of the wetness.
Clean the rash area as gently as possible.
Let the baby’s skin dry completely. Even allowing your baby to go bare bottomed without a diaper. Air drying is quite affective.
This will allow he skin to cool as well, helping the rash.
Apply thick layers of your selected ointment.
